Let's try this again. Hyouka has 3.304 major translation efforts: Commie, Mazui, gg, and R1. The decimal reflects the fact that gg dropped the series seven episodes in. This is by all accounts a difficult show to translate, and as best as I can tell, none of the available options are actually good. Commie has the best script quality English-wise, but based on my experience with Nisemonogatari episode 7, I have zero faith in the ability of the 2012 version of Vale to output a passable script in six hours or whatever timeframe Commie was working with. Mazui tended to use multiple translators per episode for the sake of speed, so it would make sense for their translation accuracy to be somewhat uneven. gg, on the other hand, had a translator whose ability to translate accurately in 2012 has been confirmed by someone I trust. Therefore, the plan is to release this show with gg until episode 7, then probably ~~Mazui~~ Commie for the rest. I plan to use Commie's TS for the entire thing since there is a revised/1080p'd version of that TS for 01-06. Of course, I would be pleased as punch if someone competent swooped in and put some work into correcting Commie's scripts. In fact, an anonymous TLC has done just that for the first few minutes of this episode.
