To address the first criticism we received: the descaling process remained the same, but we swapped Mitchell for Bilinear. Although it has a lower error (not good), it is more "standard", and you won't notice any differences unless you zoom in 800x. The rest of the filterchain remained unchanged, but the filters we are using now are much more precise at removing grain/noise while preserving details. **Note**: The filterchain was built around the encoder, so in the comparison, you will notice that it looks quite raw and unrefined. This is exactly because we are trying to exploit the encoder's characteristics instead of over filtering and losing detail. As for the encoding itself, we shifted to using the new AV1 fork, 5fish, which allows for better preservation of details and faint texture during encoding. This is combined with a custom FGS (Film Grain Synthesis) that can be enabled or disabled at your preference, allowing it to emulate the original grain in the best possible way. This brings us to the second criticism: that a regrain process will always cover faint details and texture. Of course it does, but do you prefer to keep all the blocking and starving caused by the old grain?
